Serving the cities of San Rafael, Ross, Larkspur, Fairfax and San Anselmo, and the county of Marin, Marin Sanitary Service is actively rolling out compliant carts to meet the new organic recovery requirements. The facility pre-processes over 4,800 tons of food waste annually that is used to generate renewable energy at the neighboring Central Marin Sanitary Agency, providing enough electricity for the facility to be off the grid 50% of the time. They also produce over 200 tons of compost annually.
